My take on the Brecker Bros 'Song For Barry' composed for and dedicated to their great friend Trombonist Barry Rogers.

Tenor and EWI

Many thanks for listening if you have time.

Best, Alex

And I'd like to say what a great new look for the website.

Well done to all.

Alex, very cool stuff... somehow this fresh track matching finally updated modern SOTW site interface... kind of cocktail party for a new site build.
Hope the site will work modernly too... sure this question has no relation to your music. Just noted the new site and super track.

Michael.

Just stellar Alex! This tune has such an awesome vibe and you nail it. Capturing the nature of a tune to its finest - something we all aspire, but something you excel at! I'm hoping to get there someday! Sax and EWI sound amazing as always, thanks for sharing!

I love your tone throughout every register! What mouthpiece and reed combination are you using? Also the sound quality is much better than the average home saxophone recording. What mic did you record this on? Excellent playing altogether! Very sophisticated soloing!

Thanks so much for the compliments. I've been working professionally for some 44 years now but only really started doing the home recording in my studio over the last 5 or so which has been a great help with the COVID thing making live work quite difficult. I was using on this track a RetroRevival Seventh Avenue South 107* tip with a BSS #3 reed. The microphone is the Sennheiser E908B going through my board of various pedals including the MXR 10 band EQ and Keeley Pro Compressor and a few other things besides. It's a recording set up that's taken me several years to get together. I put everything through to my iPad Pro from a Tascam IXR audio interface and my DAW is Cubasis2 ( I have the 3 version but I prefer the 2) I also use a number of audio apps within Cubasis such another compressor and reverbs etc I try to adjust the ambient settings to match the backing track. Some require more or less of various FX. I've since moved onto a New Otto Link Florida 7* on tenor. The RR piece is for sale. I love it but I'm looking for something else in my sound that the Link offers me. Once again thank you for the positive feedback. Alex

Have you tried Phil Barone's mouthpieces? I love the Super New York model so much I just bought a jazz and Hollywood model for comparison and Phil's pieces blow away every other mouthpiece I have ever played. Btw I was in fact marveling at how much your tone sounded like MB himself.

That's a fabulous compliment thank you. I've been listening to Mike since '74 and I guess it's going to get into your playing somehow? I have tried Phil's pieces and never had a lot of success unfortunately. But very happy with where I am right now. Do you have anything of yours I can listen to?

Not yet but I plan to record my rendition of the Chicken this week since I will be off work. Planning to post it on the tune of the month thread. That song is my jam so I guess it convinced me to do my first recording post here on sotw.
