Great stuff here! I'm going with one of the shows I have seen. 12 or so years ago I saw the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra directed by Irvin Mayfield. But one sax player stood out noteably - Ed 'Sweet Bread' Petersen. So here is the great tune featuring him I remember fondly:

Haha! Coincidental that Ed would come up at the same time as Von Freeman in another thread. They played together over many years at the Green Mill in Chicago. They used to be the featured New Year's Eve act for many years IIRC.

That's a really nice cut there.
I had no idea they were playing together. That's cool to know, and very interesting timing. Both are great!

Guido Nijs of the Jazz Invaders played this fine Tsx solo and really impressed me.
The rest of the band is just as good and you can hear the whole thing at:
Lonnie Smith helps too! Beautiful groove!

Another Chicago great although not widely known - Mark Colby. Toured with Maynard, Bob James & others, but settled down to teach and perform locally before the road killed him. I think he had three heart attacks by the time he was in his mid-40s. I studied with him briefly many years ago. Great teacher and a really nice guy.
