I`m studying at college now (yes, right now, literally) and found this very enlightening article regarding starting up as a pro musician.

Here

I`m writing a 500 word essay with my chosen subject that of "Road Crew" and this is helping enormously. The writers honesty and candor come out in the most humorous way. You`ll enjoy reading it or your money back ;)

Rather accurate. That's why I work for a bank now.
They should have put in that you get one of the guys, preferably the sax player, to work in a bank so you can get him to embezzle the money to keep the band on the road. Everyone that wants to be a pro musician should experience a road gig just to see if it is for them. I wouldn't trade some of my crazy road gigs for anything. Even some of the bad things that happened are kind of funny in retrospect. I think that traveling the world playing adds to your musicianship. Especially hearing all the different types of music and the cultures you come in contact with.

Yeah, that was good for me too. When I was 17 to 27. And you couldn't get me to trade that for anything. But, I wouldn't subject my family to that now (though I'm tempted from time to time).

Good no nonsense Aussie writing, with just a touch of "taking the pi$$". I'm trying to work out whether I know this guy. A real slap upside the head to the starry eyed.
Maybe we should give him an honorary membership here. :D ;)

I understand that the rules are a bit different in the UK.

My guess is that if I want to become a professionnal musician I should find a place where there are no musicians and give lessons to anyone there, even people who don't want to take lessons ...!

So you want a truly "captive" audience? May I refer you to a certain "Bay" near the US??
