Aww.. that's a shame. I always thought he was like the boxing equivalent of a sawn-off shot gun. Used to love watching him when I was a kid.

Here's a good one:

Yeah, I remember waking up in the middle of the night to watch him fight Ali...

RIP, Joe...

He fought back in the day when nobody ever ducked a fight. Imagine telling a boxer now he would have to fight somebody like Ali three times in his career.
I'm sure Ali would call him one of the "Greatests".

The thing about Joe Fraser is he never stopped coming. His motto seemed to be "Yeah you might land 5 shots to my 1 but when I land that 1 your gonna know it!" A bulldog coming forward always, sometimes to his own detriment as in the Foreman fights. RIP Joe, you were a true warrior.

Yeah he and Ali had their moments. I am glad that they were able to regain their original friendship later in life and put their differences behind them. RIP Joe....Truly one of the greatest boxers ever!

Those Frazier Ali fights were epic, they had a genuine excitement about them I really no longer feel in any pro sports maybe boxing most of all.
The film Facing Ali is a must see because it puts the spotlight on many of the amazing boxers who fought Ali and their lives and stories are really something special.

I remember him coming on the Howard Stern Show right after having cut his toe off with his lawn mower after mowing his lawn barefooted. Quite a character and one of those guys that was funny without even trying to be.

Ali called him a lot of things; most of which Frazier never forgave him for considering how good Frazier was to Ali during Ali's times of trouble. He took that grudge to the grave. But one of the reasons Ali was considered the greatest, was because he had his Frazier. One of my favorite sports metaphors.

Maybe so, but I think their brothers in arms respect for each other, really did transcend their egos.

Did you catch the HBO documentary made a couple years ago focusing on Frazier? In regard to the grudge, you heard his outgoing voice-mail message: Joe Frazier, sharp as a razor, yeah - float like a butterfly sting like a be, I'm the one who did the job, ask him, you'll see...

I did not.
Ali was the show man and knew how to market himself.

Jealousy aside, and regardless of what was said between them... it remains my opinion.

Their personalities were as different as their fighting styles and it made it interesting in and out of the ring..I did read recently that Fraser decided to forgive Ali for the things he said because "He is in a bad way" as Fraser put it. A true gentleman.

I think Ali was a bit too disrespectful of Joe in the day - and did himself a disservice

They actually did make amends in the last few years.
