Small chamber tenor rollover piece?

2011 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  mfry
I got to thinking last night what the tenor V16 hr would play like with a small chamber. I like the small chamber on alto, wonder if that translates to tenor. What pieces have been produced in a rollover design and a small chamber in hard rubber for tenor? Curious, I couldn't think of any of the top of my head.

I remember reading somewhere that a small chamber doesn't work on tenor for reasons of acoustics.
A medium chamber (same size as the bore) is as small as they can go otherwise it messes things up.
A mouthpiece expert can probably explain why this is.
More a matter of taste than acoustics IMO. More people like the large chamber sound on tenor, more like the small and medium chamber sound on alto. Sure, pitching a small chamber is different and maybe sub-optimal, but not insurmountably so.

As far as current rollover small chambers, Selmer Soloist, Meyer should still do a small chamber if you can find one, Jody's HR* is a medium-small chamber.
The HR* chamber is a little smaller than the V16, the throat is a lot smaller. Yani HR is another good call.
