I have been taking alto sax lessons for almost two years. I practice nearly every day.My sight reading and playing are coming along, but I play in a seated position. When I stand to play, I can't get comfortable and the sax feels difficult to control.I have a YAS 23. Any suggestions ??

As you get more accomplished you`ll want to stand up and play. I prefer standing, although we sit at band, because it gives you more freedom to jig about. That jigging about helps me get into and feel the music more. I think its the same with everyone. Relax, it`ll come in time.

For me it's the opposite way, I feel uncomfortable sitting for more than 5-10 minutes. It's probably because I'm mostly self-taught and I learned to play standing.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm 6' 4" and when I stand to play my neck strap makes it cumbersome to either hold the alto toward my right side or straight out in front of me. I'd like to practice and play more standing up because it will improve my air support.
