My favorite is Sting. He sang lead and played fretless bass at the same time. Fretless!

I’m a pretty good singer most of the time and I’ve been working up some bass chops for about a year and a half now: played my first 2 bass gigs as a last minute sub with my own ska band right before global shutdown...the trombones were on their own! Anyway, I’m not at the level of being comfortable walking over jazz changes on a stage quite yet, but I’m coming along. I try to sing even a single line or background vocal that differs from what I’m playing on the bass and both instruments fall apart. Super frustrating, but a challenge I definitely want to keep working on.
You’re sounding good, Dude!

Thank you @soybean and @swperry1 : the more difficult is not to feel ridiculous even if I know I am but everything that is not dangerous for the physical health is worth to be tried.
Thanks for your comments.

i confess that rhythm and melody trend more basic when singing. maybe more than simply keeping the beat on the tonic and fifth, but not necessarily much more than that. well ingrained riffs are helpful.

And lisa's sister. Apparently it's a lot easier for women than men.

I have a huge crush on Nicki Parrott. She played with Les Paul at the Iridium for the last ten years of his life. She didn't sing publicly until Les Paul suggested it. One more thing to thank Les for. :)
