I have never owned or played a lacquered one but I have played a silver plated BA Tenor since 1980. I find it bright enough with a Morgan 'EL' mputhpiece and Selmer Mark VI type pads with the brown plastic resonators. I think the pad type and mouthpiece would more be the determiner of the 'sound' rather than the finish.

The question assumes that the finish has an effect on a saxophone's sound. Many of us don't believe that, others do. I am among those who think that plating or lacquer (or the absence thereof) means nothing. If I understand the believers, I'd guess that if anything, silver-plating may make a horn brighter. But then, even the concepts of bright and dark tone are controversial and very subjective.

I doubt if you can get an objective answer to your question. DAVE
