I have the exact same model series one Aristocrat in silver plate with the art deco engraving (mine's 292,xxx). It looks exactly like the photos you posted. These are great horns. Beautiful tone quality, great intonation, with a focused powerful sound.

Just a fyi, but the bell is not small; it just has a small amount of flare on the end of the bell that makes the bell look smaller than usual (an optical illusion of sorts).

I'm not sure about current pricing, but I'd say they are undervalued on the market meaning you should be able to get a good deal assuming you want it for playing (not flipping). At a guess, I'd say around $2k if in good playing condition but that's only a ballpark figure. In terms of 'true' value (not necessarily market value) it's worth more than that. And I think the silver plate adds value; really solid plating in those days that will last 'forever.'

It's rare to see a tenor so old in such pristine condition. Many altos ended up in closets but tenors routinely got played.

Lacquered series 1 tenors, in particular, look rough unless they're relacquered. Silver ones have the sandblast polished almost smooth.

Great looking horn!

Judging from the first picture (click several times they expand seriously), I can see at least two original norton springs, still gold plated

In my part of the world these COULD be worth quite a bit of money (apparently , as usual, more than in the US) but won't be an easy sale anyway. €2500 to €3000 (in a shop), would be ballpark but the shop needs to find the person whom is really appreciating this particular brand and model and that is not necessarily an easy find

Every one I had a chance to play has been fantastic (they were all in good condition). I only have now a 1924 TT and a 1951 Aristocrat and I can't even say which one I prefer, probably a mood thing. The Aristocrat is slightly mellower than the TT but they are still very similar. Same goes for all the others that I got my hands on.

Naah, replates never look like that. The matte finish has the appropriate "polishing" of age and of its time. Nowadays the sandblasted finished don't have that look, they're rougher. And it has wear right where the wear should be like on the left side bell key guard.

How do these series 1 horns play compared to the later 156 models?
I can speak to this since I have one of each (and I enjoy talking about them on here ;)). After playing both off and on over the past 10 years or so (in addition to my VI), I still can't say for certain which of the two Bueschers I prefer. Here are my subjective thoughts on how they compare:

They both have a wonderful, rich & full, tone quality and very good intonation. Both are capable of getting a HUGE sound, especially with certain mpcs (all horns are mpc dependent in this respect). Both play very well from the bottom to top and into the altissimo range. In terms of differences, the series 1 has a more focused sound, a little more 'bite' and resistance (good resistance), but it's still pretty 'free-blowing' which I think is a characteristic of the Aristocrat tenors in general. The 156 has a more 'spread' sound, is more free-blowing, and seems a bit louder behind the horn. But I suspect the series 1 might project better due to more focus. The series 1 is more like my VI in this respect. Bottom line, both are great horns and really fun to play.

I'd say that's a very fair price in terms of market value, and an excellent buy in terms of its true value as a quality sax.

By the way, I agree with others here that it's not a re-plate. Mine is definitely original silver plate and it looks EXACTLY like the one in those photos (right down to the red bumper felts). Mine also has a gold wash inside the bell; does yours have that as well?

Yes on the price and also on the replate (or lack thereof). Even the pads look like they might be original, wouldn't surprise me on the bell pads anyway.

This looks like an exceptionally nice horn!
