From the NYT calendar:
David Liebman-Sam Newsome Quartet (Saturday) David Liebman and Sam Newsome are soprano saxophonists (though Mr. Liebman also plays tenor), and by that alone they share an important link to Steve Lacy, their subject here. Mr. Lacy, who died in 2004, was a pioneer on the instrument, and a profoundly inquisitive artist whose example still resonates in jazz. It’s enough to raise expectations for this first-time meeting between Mr. Liebman and Mr. Newsome, backed by Gregg August on bass and Otis Brown III on drums. At 9 and 10:30 p.m., Cornelia Street Café, 29 Cornelia Street, Greenwich Village, (212) 989-9319, corneliastreetcafe.com; $15 cover, with a $10 minimum.
