Happy Saturday, SOTW, and happy birthday (a day late) to Chick Corea! Undoubtedly one of the most brilliant minds of American music, and "Litha" is one of my favorite tunes of his.

Several years ago I wrote a large ensemble arrangement of this tune for Ian O'Beirne's "Slowburn" big band in Philadelphia (Ian's a wonderful saxophonist, he snoops around on SOTW occasionally) and I really enjoyed the process of digging into the composition. I haven't played it much since then, so I took the prompting of Chick's birth-week and the infamous "Jam of the Week" Facebook group to make a backing track and get to shedding. Here are a couple quick and dirty choruses for ya.

As always, if anyone wants to geek out about the improvisational aspects or the saxophone/recording gear aspects of this track/video, holler at me or cruise over to my website and send me an email. Cheers.
