The reed is on. the soft side which is fine and needed to facilitate the articulations, false fingerings and harmonics. Its a hell of blow, especially at 5600" above sea level. Makes breathing a bit more challenging.

Hey LNSax, very nicely done. It did have a Brilhart-like tone to my ears. So how is it from the user side. What are your impressions of the piece? Projection sounded fine from my end, how was it from your end? Your insights would be appreciated.

Thanks mijderf.
Yes The Orion is precisely a Brillhart animal. If projection is what you seek, then Brilharts are not what you're looking for.
This mouthpiece does its own special thing at a modest volume level. Mr. Phil-Tone has this thing totally dialed in. The way it articulates responds is perfect. It is bright and compact, not a big sound, rather a sweet sound and very pretty. it's a special thing and I'm very happy to have it in my quiver.
Think Stan Getz on his Brilhart Streamline circa 1952-54...

Thanks for posting that LateNite

Im glad you are digging the pieces.

A lot of players have really been enjoying them. Aside from recordings I can tell you I cant in tone when I compare to my originals in the shop. Of course I can make them brighter or darker but if I center in for the classic Brilly sound the only difference I can feel is that (like others have said) my version is more responsive, rapid, and easier to control.

195 Euro was the introductory price but I may keep it there for a while. Its a nice price point for some who cant reach into the stratosphere.
