I really like my SA80 tenor but I would like to consider a different neck that was more free blowing. Does a SA80 Series III neck attach to a SA 80 Series I tenor without any modifications? Is intonation or altissimo affected?

I have played a number of Mark VI tenors and they were nice but I did not see a compelling reason to change other than it seemed to be more free blowing. I play mostly blues, rock and jazz. No classical. I use a Ponzol M2 mouthpiece.

Hello,

My SIII neck is an excellent match on my SA80 tenor. It fattens the sound from bottom to top and improves the intonation. I didn't have to have the tenon altered as it seems to be the same diameter.

However I have to say the neck was carefully picked by a professional player. This may be a very important factor if not the main one...

Does the Series III neck have less resistance than the Series I neck? Is it more free blowing?

Any perceived difference in the altissimo notes?

Thank You,
Paul

Interesting. Is the showroom open to anyone?
Basically it is. But, as far as I know, as Selmer isn't selling directly, you have to come on behalf of an official Selmer reseller. Your buy will be invoiced through him.

Hello Paul,
Yes for me MY neck is less resistant than the original neck. It also improves the altissimo register (the few I'm able to play properly...)
