I just purchased a Balanced Action alto that doesn’t have the original case. I am on the hunt for an original pre Mark VI Selmer case if you know of anyone that’s got one. Been contacting all of the shops. Thanks!

I prefer all of the details to be original, just like all of the other vintage pieces that I own. Old BMW motorcycles have to be all original, non restored with original tool kits, manuals, cars the same way. With the sax, I want it to have all of the original pieces back in place. I also don’t like the modern cases with old horns- looks out of place. That’s just my opinion of course and others will have theirs.

This BA is Paris made with lake scene engraving. Some of my research shows that different cases were offered from the two different horn origins, some research says that there were multiple case offerings (mid 60’s). My 167XXX Elkhart engraved VI Alto had a chesterfield case. Thanks!

Therein lies the problem. There really are no "original" cases because of the multiple case offerings. Now, I get that your trying to match up your horn with a case from the same era, but finding one in relatively good shape may take a while as most cases take a beating. I prefer a contoured gig case for my horns as they are less bulky and transport easier, plus all the original cases are unused so if I ever sell a horn the case is still as good as new. Good luck case hunting.
