Saxjuss: Depends on the price, I suppose. I've only played one Serie III alto (finish doesn't matter) and came away thinking it was unacceptably bright to my ears. That was the same day I bought a new Selmer Reference 54 alto.

All the Ref 54's I played were great sounding altos - some were just better players than others. And the ones I've played since buying mine were equally good.

I know others like their Serie III altos, but I prefer the Ref 54. DAVE

It's a matter of what you you like, basically.

No horn is necessarily 'better' than any others. You shouldn't buy a horn based solely on the opinions of others, especially seeing as it's such a big investment.

If you have to ask us, then I concur with Saxy: No.
