I did some searches, and I didn't come up with a thread like this, so I hope I'm not duplicating. :shock:

OK boys and girls, so it's fess up time. Given all the Mark VI threads around, I thought it would be kind of fun to see how many of the 16,000+ SOTW members actually own one or more of the horns that people either a) love, or b) love to hate

So, to all of you proud (or bashful) Mark VI owners, let's do a head count.

Include the type (SATB or whatever else) and anything else that might be interesting like S/N range, unusual model (eg: varitone, low A alto), etc. etc.

So here goes my list. In total there are 4 in my horn family:

Soprano: 266XXX with a high F# key
Alto: 240XXX
Tenor: 198XXX
Bari: 147XXX low Bb a relaquered horn

100,xxx alto bought new for $184. I have owned a few VI Tenors, 3 Sopranos and a low A Bari. Haven't played the alto since 1999.

wouldn't it be nice to have included in the poll wether it was original lacquer
or relacquered this would reflect what people think about relacquered horns

My MKVI is a relacquered although it was not advertised wether it was or not on ebay and when asked the question he said he was unsure
Still after getting it to my repair tech who gave it a repad and a really good service i can't complain and it has changed my opion on relacquered horns

Purchased it about 10 years ago for $3K. It was a closet horn...never touched or played. Not a bad investment...I had an offer for $13K for it once. That's crazy stuff.

I have owned many examples of each. Would love a bass. The Mark V1 bass is superb. Check out UK's Tony Bevan for state of the art improvised bass sax on a V1.

The tenor is a relaq.

The alto I've had since it was new in 1972--about 65% lacquer remains. Defintely well loved.
