I noticed adds for the Selmer Concept mouthpiece from Amazon popping up on my internet browser, so I decided to check it out. I couldn't believe a company as reputable as Selmer would allow such a poorly translated mouthpiece description to be published as the product description on Amazon. My initial impression was that this is some sort of Chinese knockoff of a Selmer product, because I can't imagine a native English speaker writing this description. But after a little research, this is in fact a genuine Selmer product. This description has to have been written by a native Chinese speaker. This is an embarrassment to Selmer. Compare this to the elegant and professional description of the same mouthpiece on wwbw.com.

Ah, yeah that makes sense. It's probably not even shipped by Amazon. A third party just listed it on Amazon.

All this talk about bringing the greatest happiness to saxophone players is a marketing catch phrase I have only heard from Chinese translators, so it leads me to believe a Chinese translator had a hand in translating the original French probably using Google translate with his personal touch added.

I would not buy a mouthpiece from Amazon anyway. I believe we should support our local saxophone techs / dealers whenever possible.

Yes, its the work of someone fairly clueless. I dont think anyone can say Selmer does not know how to market.

I review the seller which is disclosed in the right sidebar on the AMZ page as "Ships from, Sold by." In this case, Park Ave Music Center San Jose Ca. storefront for WEST COST BAND AND ORCHESTRA INC, 1717 Park Ave, San Jose, Ca. I know nothing about them but if I were buying this MP I'd do more research prior to paying $194.80 to see if they are an actual US business or rather a trans-shipment depot for an off-shore distributor. $257 at WWBW so that is a great price.
Even Selmer Paris on their English-language corporate web page uses some unusual idioms such as, "The 'Reference' series currently proposes two tenor saxophone versions..." Perhaps they expect the world to learn French if seeking the full nuance of their literature since they are closest to source saxophone, and "bec" (beak) is a perfectly good--and the original--word for mouthpiece. Not unique to the French: what about "crook," as the English describe the neck, or "crotchets" and "quavers" for quarter- and eighth-notes.

So crook , among many meanings a Shepherd's staf or Bishop's crozier, is is not far off the shape of a saxophone,.

In Italian (!!!) people call a saxophone's neck a " chiver " a word that nobody has ever been able to trace in any language and is certainly not of Italian origin , I once published a thread about this and the " explanations" were all based on wild guesses none of which was satisfactory

Let me start saying that I speak fluently Italian because it is my mother tongue. If you don't mind me blowing my own horn (pun intended!) ;) :) , my knowledge of Dante's language is very good indeed and I pride myself on using a very good and varied lexicon when speaking or writing this...

I shall not go into the fact that the correct Italian word for mouthpiece is " bocchino" but that many nowadays refer to it as " becco" ( which is proper for a recorder but not for a saxophone or trumpet) because the word I mentioned before has also a more vulgar meaning which makers the translation of mouthpiece maker , rather embarrassing or hilarious or both

I just saw this same conversation about car parts. People were saying that counterfeit parts were being sold using original boxes and to avoid amazon and go straight to the source for purchase.
