Hi guys,

My sax has fallen into a state of disrepair over the past few years. The bell is bent and the lower register keys aren't sealing properly as a result. I may need repadding as well.

I want to take my Mark VI to a guy who tends to work more on Mark VI's than on anything else. I'd be willing to invest in a well-known guy. I thought it would be easy to find Oleg online, but when I google him all that shows up are his products and such.

Does anyone have Oleg's contact info? Or can you recommend any other guys who typically do repairs for professional players?

Thanks much

I'm not affiliated in any way. I'm not sure where Oleg is doing work if he is anymore. There's been positive reports by other members and "hornimprovement" does post on the board from time to time.

You can see his member information here: http://forum.saxontheweb.net/member.php?u=17650

You can send him a private message with questions.

Papa: Try Rheuben Allen in the Musicians' Union Bldg. on Vine Street in Hollywood.

Also, Scimonetti's store in Lancaster.

Baxter-Northrup in Sherman Oaks (Ventura Bl. west of Van Nuys Blvd.).

I've had major work done by all of those I named and the finished product was superb. DAVE

Without belaboring the point, my experience with Oleg was -NOT- positive, and I would not recommend him.

Rhueben Allen does good work and is a good guy. If you're east of L.A., I'd definitely recommend Jim Mettler over at at Gard's Music in Glendora.

Oleg only does overhauls and acoustic work by referenced appointment now. He is quite expensive, and in my opinion, quite worth it. He has done several overhauls for me over the years. I have used others as well when Oleg was not available. A few from the list mentioned earlier. I would not take my VI tenor to anyone else! Intonation, acoustics, feel are all spot on after he does his thing. I have also found that his overhauls last longer and with fewer tune-ups in between.

He also touched up a overhaul to a VI soprano I have. Did his neck work on it at the same time. The outcome was nothing short of miraculous.

Everyone has opinions and preferences and I know Oleg is not everyone's cup of tea. He has been indispensable to me ever since I went to his first shop in Hollywood 20 years ago.

I think I'll be giving Rheuben a ring, after two solid referrals. Thannks
