I have once had an alto sax reed with a black label glued on, saying 'Scientific'. It was actually quite good, but then it was damaged and meanwhile I used the remnant as a mean to keep the ligature on the MPc (at the moment I can't find even that, but the triangle was similar like in the attached pic) Brown Wood Rectangle Beige Wood stain
.

The special characteristic of this reed was that it had a small triangle gouged out somwehere close to the part of the reed that stays on the table and on the flat side of the reed, still within the vibrating part.

Can anybody provide some information about the maker and maybe about the 'scientific' background or the idea behind that special make?

Thanks, keep safe
Robert

Indont know the brand but run a search on reed drilling. Its round rather than a triangle but it serves the same purpose. Google search will tske you to discussions here on SOTW for many years on and off.
I remember playing some clarinet reeds with a blind hole drilled part way through, near the reed vamp. Here is a link that talks about it, and the 3rd and 6th posts in particular mention reed brands that did this.
