I've got an as new silver plated French engraved SBA tenor SN 34xxx with short bell. Does the short bell make it less valuable and what is it worth roughly on the market?
Thanks for your precious knowledge!
Early SBA's play great, even with the intonation issues from low C down ... They are some of my favorite Selmers ever made, along with the Radio Improved.
Anyway ... Value depends on a lot of things, but ultimately the early SBAs are worth less than the later ones.
If yours is original silver plate then it is worth around 8K ... That's what I've seen them go for lately. Once again, value depends on a lot of things ... We'd need pictures to give you a better estimate.
Thanks Simon. Yes it's original silver plate with original case (it slept in an attic for a few decades before I bought it a few years ago) with beautiful engraving on the bell. It has a massive sound indeed. I don't have any pictures to hand as I'm away from home right now but thanks for your viewpoint on value.
