I came here before the current thread count back in 2001. Since then:

Saxophones I bought
Buescher True Tone Alto
King Zephyr Alto*
Conn 10M Tenor
Buescher Big B Tenor**
King Silversonic Tenor

Saxophones I sold
Selmer SBA Alto
Selmer Mark VII Tenor
Buescher Big B Tenor**
Selmer Mark VI Soprano
Selmer Mark VI Sopranino
Conn 10M Tenor

Note that this is not a list of every saxophone I own; just the ones bought and sold since coming here. Also, some of the ones sold aren't necessarily horns that I bought since coming here. Surprisingly, I have one less than what I started with and don't regret parting with any of the ones I let go.

* for my son
** A tech was supposed to rebuild this horn, but after he sat on it for two years I instead convinced him to buy it from me

Since I discovered SoTW in 1999, I've Bought & Later Sold all these altos (basically one a year). In the 18 years before I joined SoTW, I only purchased one alto (a King Zephyr):
3 x King Super 20 (ebay)
3 x The Martin "Committee III" as they say on SOTW (ebay)
The Martin Comm II (ebay)
Selmer Mark VI (craigslist from Sonny Simmons)
Silver plated King Zephyr (ebay)
King Zephyr (ebay)
Silver plated Yamaha YAS 875 Custom (Sam Ash)
Silver plated Conn Tranny (like a 6M) with NY neck (neighbor)
Silver plated Conn 6M (ebay)
Yanagisawa A4 (with Selmer style pinkie keys) (from Boston tech Michael Leonard)
Buescher True Tone (craigslist)
Borgani pre-jubilee (Sotw)
Kohlert VKS (ebay)

I've purchased only a couple of the 18 altos from the SOTW marketplace, mostly I won auctions on Ebay.

most recently, I bought a Vito (Beaugnier) alto from SOTW - it's my only alto now (I'm downsizing);

A Borgani Jubliee alto is the best thing I've ever played and Sanborn era Selmer Mark VI alto (#144xxx) is the close second.

I've probably bought and sold the same amount of Tenors. I'm down to one, a Mark VI and it's for sale.

I appreciate that Gary. I was thinking this over while reading another thread about whether or not to sell the excess horns we might end up with. Of course someone out there might use it as a marketing survey, but that's well beyond my intent. As an aside, I have to say that overall my buying and selling have been good experiences, and without SOTW I might still be playing horns that I came to realize may not have been the best fit for me. Though for others... it might be a wake-up call.

I've bought and sold several. No profit motive, just curiosity-based, and holy-grail pursuit. I stabilized a while ago. I think I only bought one last year, sent two back that weren't as described.

Sold:

1957 Selmer Mk. VI alto
1920s Martin curved soprano

Bought:

1945 Buescher TH&C alto
1945 Conn 444 clarinet
1927 Buescher True Tone soprano

Under other circumstances I would have kept the Mark VI, but I simply couldn't afford both horns. TBH, while I fell in love with the Buescher the first time I played it, I never really felt "right" with the Selmer. While it was the horn I played through in college, I picked it up because I needed a pro horn after high school, and my instructor at the time was a Selmer guy and was pushing me towards it. However I never really felt it was "me," and had since tried out a few other horns whenever I came across one at a music store. In hindsight I've come to realize that a lot of what I went through with that instructor wasn't the right fit for me, and I wish I'd seen it then rather than drag it out.

The Martin I picked up cheap as much because of curiosity as anything. In practice it always felt awkward in my hands.

I think I've settled in on my rig now, although I may still pick up a backup for my alto at some point (probably another Buescher, maybe a Big B).

When I first joined SOTW, I owned only my student Bundy alto (which I have actually sold, and then bought back several years later)

But I've bought & sold several.

Bought:

Yanigisawa S6 Soprano
Keilwerth Tone King Soprano

Grassi 'Jade Model' Alto
Beuscher True Tone Alto
King Zephyr Alto

Lyon & Healy C Melody
Gretsch C Melody

Monique Tenor
Yamaha YTS 52 Tenor
Martin Committee Tenor
Conn 10M
King Zephyr Tenor
Couf Superba I Tenor

Martin "Official Music Man Model Bari"
King Zephyr Bari
Conn 12M Bari
Selmer Mark VI Bari

Beuscher True Tone Bass

I think that's all? I may be missing one or two. I've also gone through many other instruments, don't get me started on my brass winds! I've also sold almost all of those, now I only have these remaining:

Keilwerth Tone King Soprano
Selmer Bundy II Alto
King Zephyr Alto
Couf Superba I Tenor
Selmer Mark VI Bari
Beuscher True Tone Bass

And if it weren't for my bass I acquired almost 4 years ago now, it would be about 8 years since I last purchased or sold a saxophone/sax mouthpiece. I got happy and decided I should practice!

The VI bari is up for an overhaul this year though!
