Saxophone Mics?

2907 Views 11 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Sivarix
I recently joined a blues band, and I was just wondering if anybody has any recommended mics. Most saxophonists that play live use the ones with clips, but I just dont know what model's of mics people recommend. Any help is appreciated

What's your budget?

IMO, this is the best one on the market.

But it's expensive. About $600 for the wireless and $350 for the wired version.

Aside from that, I've used the Audio Technica ATM 35 with good success.
go for the sanheizer MD421, it aint cheep but is by far the best mic i've used in live situation

Wired clip on: ATM 35
Wireless: Samson Airline 77 receiver with AH1 or AMT Roam elite wind mics
do you know where I could find these for the cheapest price possible?

I have dealt with these guys for 15 years. Never had a problem.

YMMV.
Shure SM 57. About $90 new and can take a lot of abuse (physically and sonically). Keep it in the pouch that it comes in and throw it in your gig bag, you'll never have any problems.

You can find them a little cheaper than that. It's not a clip on obviously, but it's probably the most popular live mic around (and it's brother the SM 58 for vocals).

I keep a 57 in my case, just in case:)
I use an SM58 for vocals, and sax live. Usually on a boom stand. Usually the wireless, but when that is not an option, the one mic does double duty.
I've been very happy with my SD Systems LCM89. Very balanced sound, and I like the volume and tone controls accessible to me on the pre-amp.
I use SD systems to and like it very much. Getz used it too, you can see a clip of it on their website
