I want to mention that if you are looking for some free saxophone advice, training or just fun you should check out The Saxophone Academy with Dr. Wally on YouTube. Dr. Wally Wallace really does a good job planning and producing his content and I love his sense of humor. What I find a shame is that he only has about 1500 subscribers but in my opinion his channel deserves a lot more. Check it out. I think you will be really glad you did.

Saxophone Academy with Dr. Wally

Here is a good video to start with if you just want a taste:

He has an interesting podcast as well.

BTW, I am in no way connected to the Saxophone Academy. I just wanted to give a shout out because I think you would really enjoy his content.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. There are so many videos made by well meaning players who unfortunately are enamored with the sound of their own voice, and mistakenly think everyone else is as interested in their ramblings as they are. Many of the ones I have watched take 20 or more minutes to present 3 or 4 minutes of useful information. Dr. Wally is a refreshing exception. He is obviously a very fine player and an exceptional teacher as well. The "gold standard" of saxophone instructional videos in my view is the "Steps to Excellence" series by Eugene Rousseau. Every sentence he speaks is clear and concise with no excess or unnecessary verbiage. Dr. Wally's presentation is just as well prepared and organized making it a pleasurable and effective learning experience.

The real strengths of his "immaculate presentations" is the combination of information dissemination and his gloriously subtle humour delivery. Really first class.

JoAnn, this REALLY made my day (alright, my week). It's been a rough few months of quarantine, these kind words (from all of you) mean more to me than you might know. I'm gearing up to get back to work next week, and excitedly dreaming up content (with the hope of making playing, a bit more fun).

Seriously, and most sincerely, thank you.

You are a class act, Dr. Wally. I am learning so much from your videos and finding it quite enjoyable at the same time. Thanks for the tremendous effort in putting these videos together!

Brevity is a pleasure to behold. How many guys/gals go on for ten minutes without saying much on these teaching videos. Just the facts, ma'am. Tell us what you're going to say. Say it. Tell us what you said. And make it snappy. I do enjoy Dr. Wally's subtle humor.

Dr. Wally! So awesome to see you here! I've been a longtime viewer of your Youtube channel, and a HUGE fan of the Saxophone Academy podcast! Really been missing it the last couple months, but distance really does make the heart grow fonder! Hope you're doing well and that you have a great start to the school year!

I concur! Dr. Wally's content and presentation is superb, and as others have mentioned, he's pretty darned amusing to boot. Saxophone Academy has been a great resource for me as I've gotten back into the horn after a 16-year break. Wally is also very generous with his time and will respond thoughtfully to email queries, and since we're in the same city, he was able to give me a great recommendation on a repair technician.

I hope he produces another "Best Mouthpieces For Under $50" because the new Brilhart Ebolin mouthpiece he recommends in his first video is no longer available anywhere. :(
I *MIGHT* have good news on that front. I doubt it will fall under $50, but there are a couple of cool Brilhart options on the horizon. I'll keep ya posted. Happy Practicing!

Since Dr.Wally doesn't seem to be plugging his work here, I just want to share that he's now posted the first part of what promises to be an excellent course. The January installment combines some progressive exercises, etudes, and has an emphasis on listening assignments (Bird with Strings, and, interestingly, Gould's Goldberg Variations).

Jeff, you're right to promote it. For those curious:

55 page pdf book (free) with lots of exercises. Really fun to do, quite hard for a beginner like myself but getting me out of the comfort zone already👍🏻

Oh, and it's free.
