Hello Everyone!

I have indeed purchased a vintage Martin alto sax and have a question:

Does anyone here know of any qualified and fair-minded sax repair techs in the Detroit area?

I would like someone to look my horn over thoroughly. It has already been refurbished, and has great tone and intonation (that big Martin sound) ... but I am not hitting the lower register very well. I realize there can be many factors .... need a better mouthpiece? air leaks? fact that I haven't played in over 14 years and need to relearn?

Before buying a new mouthpiece for it, I would really like a tech to go over it with a fine-tooth comb and let me know if there is anything else that needs to be done to it, to make the low smokey notes come thru.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Sax Tech

 Candy

The closest A1 tech that I have used for years is at The Wind Works in Burton Michigan, Luke is the owners name, honest, dependable and pretty darn busy. Tell him Lee with the Couf Superba 1 sent you. He has overhauled my Couf, he will R&R the Martin Handcraft that I just acquired, he has also done some soprano and clarinet work for me. Play and adjustments prices are reasonable but plan on leaving your horn there at least 1 week unless your doing a major restoration.

Hope this helps
Oh yeah the address is
Wind Works
3333 S Center Rd
Burton, MI 48519
(810) 743-5420
About 25 miles from Clarkston MI

I don't have time to do an overhaul - but it sounds like it just needs a tweak. I'd be happy to take a look at it if you are in the Troy area. I could tell you if it's the horn or the mouthpiece or both. Or neither!

Hello EZ!

I am unable to reach anything other than an answering machine at the above number. I left a message the first time I called, but haven't heard anything yet.

Could you give me some more info about your location in Troy?

Thanks!

Livonia Repair Tech

Hi, Candy!
Did you buy this horn out from under me? :? :) Just kidding.

Ken Cameron is an A#1 guy and a great tech. He just overhauled my Martin Handcraft Soprano. What a job!

Cameron's Music is in Livonia, about a mile off I-96.

His number is 734-513-7080.
I'm sure he'd appreciate knowing I'm talking him up, so you can tell him that Brandon (with the Martin Handcraft Soprano overhaul) sent you.

Good luck!

Wow! I appreciate all of this feedback and tips!

I called back the first number, but still no answer.

I have looked for the email from EZ, but so far it has not arrived.

I have no phone at my disposal right now until my daughter returns home, so I will try the Livonia number when I can.

I have only a week from purchase to decide whether I keep the sax or not, and so I am sure hoping I can have it looked at and perhaps "tweaked" if necessary before the deadline.

Thanks for all your help!

Thanks again!
