As much as I generally like sax.co.uk videos and Jim Cheek as a genial host/test player, if you demo Selmer Series II and Series III altos with zero classical repertoire, and without trying out a classical setup, you're doing it wrong. Just mentioning classical as a possible application is no substitute, especially in a video that lasts 15 minutes.

Maybe classically oriented players don't care as much about what other think about their horns? :)

Also I don't think I've seen any videos from them where they have a classically trained player demoing anything.

I think your comment might be somewhat correct. Classical players generally just play whatever their professors play (generally . . . I am sure there are many exceptions). :bluewink:

That's right, because as far as I can tell, no one with that background works there, or perhaps has ever worked there, which is weird. I'm sure the U.K. has its share of unemployed or underemployed classical saxophonists who would like to work in a big sax shop, just like jazz players. :) (See Dawkes Music for comparison.)

Also, did you notice that there was not one word about ergonomics in 15 minutes? I have played all three of these models, two at great length -- they're not identical! Yes, they sound different and respond differently, but they also feel a bit different under the fingers. Surely that's worth at least a brief dialogue.

I don't know about the UK but I don't run into many classical sax players at horn shops in the US. I don't think most could afford it. Retail jobs don't pay all that well so I suspect most folks working them have side hustles playing gigs at night. Not many classical saxophone gigs around, at least not here in Colorado.
