He played in Wichita, KS and at 80+ years, he did a great job. Performed Along Came Betty, Killer Joe, Whisper Not. Had 3 young gentleman supporting him that really cooked. You could tell he was having a good time.

He told some stories before some of the songs that were interesting. One was about him and John Coltrane joining a band while they were in high school making $8/day. $4 of went to rent tuxedos.

It is great to see and hear somebody from what I think are the golden days of jazz music; having that connection with folks like Coltrane, Philly Joe Jones, Clifford Brown.

Mr. Golson was kind enough hang out afterwards to meet and sign autographs. Very nice experience.

Each time I am in JFK airport I am thinking of him... wish I was there! Nice to know he's personable, not the case with all giants.

Is Benny Golson still using popsicle sticks for reeds anymore? he always used extra hard reeds like custom made number 6 reeds. does he still sound like
Don Byas his American Idol?
