Hello folks!.
I've just received today my impatiently awaited Tenor Lost Wax Sakshama Florida.
I'll start by the end; Five Stars Mouthpiece *****
The communication with the Master have always been superb and he paid lot of attention to my requirements .Due to my very impatient personality i could have easily sent him over 35-40 e-mails, plus Skype calls and messages and some SOTW PMs as well.He had handled it with loads of honestity and patience which is really kind from him.
The Mouthpiece is a silver plated bronze Lost Wax Florida .105 for Tenor.
The finishing is really smooth and nice, the inner work is perfectly simmetrical.Tip rail is thin and perfect as both other rails also are.The facing curve and baffle denotes an amazing mastery of craftsmanship as they are simply perfect. Also the bite plate is well placed and finished.
I can see from pictures of his earlier works that his mastery has evolved considerably in visual terms.
Soundwise is exactly what i asked for.I widely explained to Mr. Koloski my sound concept and also sent him some audioclips of the sound i want to try to "emulate".
As Steve Neff says on his blog in his review about Sakshama's Florida copy; is a great example of a great playing Florida.
Is in the Dark side but with a hint of brightness that makes the sound really interesting.Focused and with a good deal of projection. It's really easy to shape the sound with this piece.Subtones really easily as altissimo register could be also reached with no effort. If pushed it's possible to have a really loud sound without losing any of its timbrical character. The tone is even in all the range of the horn and the low end is deep and complex.
I've tryied hundreds of different mouthpieces and a good amount of Floridas out of the hands of well known and respected refacers.I've also tryed some attempts to recreate the Florida thing, some of them really poor ones.
I have to say that Sakshama's one is clearly THE BEST i've tryied, is completely an outer world thing, is the REAL thing.
Considering the price to be a more than reasonable one i think this is a MUST for all those that are in the quest for the perfect Florida Link.
The packaging have been also great and safe and the shipping lightning fast.
When you read the Master saying things about his mouthpieces like this: "This one can challenge and win over any real Florida", please, do yourself a favor and believe him.
Love can't be described with words!.

Another big +1 for Sakshama. I have a Z and a stubby from him, and they are both excellent. He's also a great gentleman to deal with.

Yesterday i spent the whole day in a friend's rehearsal room. This friend is a freak mouthpiece collector and he brought some of his dearest and most killin' mouthpieces to compare them against each other and my new Sakshama Florida.
In the bag he had an Otto Link Double Ring .105 (worked by a well known refacer), a Florida USA .100 (worked by the same refacer as the Double Ring), another Florida no USA .105 (also worked on by another famous refacer), a François Louis Solid Silver (sorry, i can't remember the opening) and a very early Otto Link Slant Signature.
Ok, for sure we can all agree that there were some different concepts mixed in there and for sure a total of a high ammount of cash.
We were trying one after another both on my 180xxx and on his 81xxx MKVIs, the pair of them nicely set up by the same master technician.
All of the above pieces are terrific players, really nice ones but what was our surprise (a pretty good one for me and a sad one for him) when after some hours we realized the Sakshama Florida was the King of the mountain. My friend almost broke in tears thinking about the amount of money he spent in his colection and now having to live with the idea that a Sakshama Florida blows them all in a heartbeat.Well, as he is a collector he doesn't mind that much but he considered seriously how all the hype affects direcly to the highly and obscene overpricing of some mouthpieces out there.
One thing is clear; in that test were mixed some different pieces but at the end what matters is the sound and the feeling and believe me, i've got to say it again; Sakshama Florida is the REAL thing.
As this guy, the mpcs collector is also sound technician we will have another apointment to record all the mouthpieces and eventually upload here all the different soundclips for each one.

Locust Solus,

Looking forward to your sound clips. Thanks so much for your interesting post.
It would also be great to listen to clips of Sakshama Brecker I and II's against the originals, if anyone has both and care to share this with us.

Thanks!

you guys have a lot of praise resounding here, and as a result i checked out sakshamas website. it appears that all his mouthpieces are blatant copies of original work. they may be good copies, but isnt there some kind of artistic and/or name infringement here?

If it ain't broke, why fix it? Most mouthpiece manufacturers today emulate and "improve" classic mouthpiece designs and put flashy names on them.
Sakshama on the other hand skips the usual marketing tam tam and just makes mouthpieces to your exact specifications. He could call them custom whatever but since every mouthpiece he makes is unique theres really no need to do so.
Which other manufacturer offers this service? Also, what do these pieces cost compared to Sakshama?

(I'm not trying to be offensive, I'm just a very happy customer)

that makes complete sense, except the fact that other manufacturers arent using potentially reserved names in their advertising. just wondering here, especially with something like the guardala name which has been obviously maligned

I was kind of wondering this too. An independant burger stand selling "Bic Macs", "Mama Burgers", or "JBCs" would definately get sued.
