The great center city Philadelphia club Zanzibar Blue is closing April 28th due it's not being able to renew the lease. This is great loss as this club was the premier location for A list jazz acts doing small venue shows in Philadelphia. I hope they re-open in another location. I've seen lots of great shows there. While the food and drink is pricey, the entertanment was always top rate.

Yeah I was pretty shocked when I read it in The Metro today. It was located at some very pricey real estate at Broad and Walnut Streets. Maybe they're re-open in a cheaper local.

Wow...That's disappointing....I was hoping to go there more after I went to go see Maynard Ferguson there last summer...This isn’t good news, looks like I will never be there again. :(

There's still plenty of clubs in town like the Tritone, Clef Club, Chris' Jazz Cafe and Ortlieb's. ZB's was the most upscale of them all.

I've been looking to find the better Jazz venues in Philadelphia for this coming school year, when I'll be living very near Center City. I looked up a few that were mentioned in the post above me, and could not find information on the Clef Club, or Chris' Jazz Cafe.

Anyone know if these, or any other good places are close to the city? (anywhere within decent public transit distance, really.)

Thanks very much for the links. Are there any particularly good locals that I should make sure I see?
