So, I'm playing Improvisation I for a college audition, and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to why I could find recordings and how to interpret some of the notation. I've looked around on line and can't find much other than it's based on Shakuhachi playing. All suggestions are welcome...

Is it best to use quarter tone fingers for the....quarter tones or bend the note (the A)?
I do plan to play something for the standard rep. but I also need something that's not standard for my UC audition
university of cincinnati...cincinnati conservatory of music
so, I've got a recording on the way....woohoo...but in the mean time, what does "japanese cutting tone" imply? Is it just a very short and hard attack?
