Well I recorded Srul Irving Glick's lullaby and the Lords prayer on to our DVD camcorder. Both Acapella. I had some abortive takes and then had to do it again due to lack of baterries in the mike(stupid me). Desperately trying to figure out how to download DVD into a mpeg or Jpeg file to send to You Tube.

I had the pleasure of hearing Ryan Burrage play at Fritzels in January earlier this year. What a phenomenal player. He had his clarinet, soprano...and brought his alto the next night via my request. He was playing a basic Taiwan "cheapie" horn...and sounded great. He played on all red JodyJazz mouthpieces with very open tips.

Also a great human being. Very cool guy, I was lucky enough to have some drinks with him and chat about music and life in general. Fantastic person, fantastic player; I'm lucky to have spent some time with him.

Here's a link to a piece I'm working up for the beginner/intermediate Christmas CD. This is the first take. My intonation is not so good. The part where I drop out in the beginning is me even surprising myself with how out of tune I can be. Yet I'll post anyway. sycc, your kids could probably do better. :)

back to ryan,

I just hope more people find out about Ryan Burrage soon- I heard some stuff on his MY SPACE page and it was the music of uncommon beauty and extensive, one might almost say comprehensive, from_the roots_foundations.
One of the things I love most about how Ryan an absolutely owns this rarified music.

Burrage is certainly among the most accomplished practitioners on his instrument and it is entirely worthwhile encountering. There are a few of these guys I've encountered on YOU TUBE...or MY SPACE . It shows me that there are players that are NOT media heros and need MORE AIR TIME and PR ASSISTANCE who's musics are loaded with rare daring and sublime accomplishments.

Take a listen...

ALSO- This saxophonist caught my attention; VERY HAPPENING.The phrasing is dense and intense....and I like the energy. GREAT STUFF- Pretty much drop everything and enjoy this great player; C MILLER killin'...

And always- DAVID VALDEZ...this guy should be touring the planet.
Without a doubt a player that should be gracing the stand with Dave Holland or Ray Haynes..he's_THAT_good. Oh yea...

A few months ago, cmelodysax asked if anyone would like to supply sound-clips of their Csops. I sent him a couple and, since I was recording anyway, I sent one of me on my 'nino. I wasn't expecting it to show up on his site, but it's kind of cute anyway. Here's the link to the page.

(I don't have any fancy equipment. I used an old computer microphone that I paid $20 for back in the mid 90s hooked up to my laptop in my home office...)
