Young Ron aims to them to sound how you want them to sound.
Give him a ring and discuss it with him, a lot of pros on this side of The Pond are mighty impressed with his work and say they are well worth waiting for. Hope so, as I'm really looking forward to receiving mine.

Ithink the RPC are great pieces. The high baffle piece is a screamer for R&B and the rollover baffle is a good all rounder. If i were you i may also try a Morgan Excalibur which you can still get hold of. i think they are pretty much the best you can get.

As a long term victim of GAS, I have a drawer full of very good tenor mouthpieces; all being very nearly perfect for me.
This collection includes Jody Jazz ESP, a superb Pillinger copy of the "Slant Sig", Bergs, Otto Links, and Runyon Quantum...oh yes, let's not forget the vastly under rated Rico Metalite.
Since buying my RPC 115B, I have used nothing else. It has been said by another poster that this piece is a screamer...indeed it is; however, it will also subtone beautifully and has a thick, rich, low end. In short, it does everything.
I play in pretty well every style, ie. Rock/Blues/Ballads & Jazz; in fact everything except what I regard as the oxymoron "Classical Saxophone"!
The RPC accommodates all styles, is even throughout the registers, instantly responsive with a rich palette of colours.
All my other mouthpieces are destined for eBay.

Hey there,
just hoping to get some opinions on the latest RPC HR Tenor mouthpieces.
The 105 rollover I just got from Ron was superb. It played effortlessly in the highs, but I needed more overtones in the lows. So he's tweaking it down, or whatever it is he does to make it that way.
It would make sense that his high baffle mpcs are screamers, but even this rollover is no slouch.
Plus, he has a very generous trial and return policy. No reason not to try one.

I haven't tried Jody Jazz pieces so can't compare. But I have an alto and a tenor RPC, and they have replaced all my other mouthpieces. Next stop: a bari RPC. I second all that has been said above. Ron's a pleasure to work with. You can expect to wait 2-5 months for your piece, depending, so be patient. It's worth the wait.

A 90R has pretty much replaced my slant sig alto piece. The 115B has replaced my dukoff D7. I practice with a 125R and 145B.

Yeah, they're good.

I spent a couple of years experimenting and trying out new mouthpieces after I got here and through numerous trades and sales pretty much sampled a broad spectrum of pieces. RPC ended my mouthpiece quest for alto, tenor and bari. Are they good? No. To me, they're great.

Hakukani, forgive me if I asked you this before, but does that 145B take bari reeds?

Nope, I'm playing VD java 2 1/2 tenor reeds on it. I tried a bari reed. It significantly darkened the sound.

I'll join the choir here. I own 2 tenor RPCs, a 115B and 120B. Both are great and highly versatile. I prefer the 120 slightly over the 115.

I've tried several Jody Jazz mpcs, but not his HR. Based on his other mpcs and what is advertised about his HR mpc, I think the RPC is probably a totally different animal. Not necessarily better, but different.

Don't let the baffle fool you. The RPC with a baffle is not a pea-shooter. It can be played with great warmth and very quietly if you choose. And, on the other end of the spectrum it will project with as much, or more, volume as anything else out there. Plays easily with good tone also. I could go on.....just give Ron a call and tell him what you're after.

Thanks

:) Thanks for your input everyone!

I will give RPC a call and see what's:? the best piece for me.

Im playing a Otto Link 8 (metal) at the moment. How would this number corespond to the number system RPC use?

I wouldn't really compare. Hakukani has my .125R that I probably should not have sold. However, I'm playing on a reworked Link at the moment and it's definitely not the same as an RPC. The chamber on an RPC is smaller, and even the "rollover" baffle model is actually more of a hump baffle. It's a good deal brighter than a regular Link. I don't really think they can be accurately compared.

Eh don't worry about that. His mouthpieces usually NEVER play what another mouthpiece in the same size would play like. He'll probably let you know what reeds go well with it too (he did for me).

Man I wish I had a spare 90R alto right now...:(

Know too that Ron Coelho makes each of these pieces by hand. He is one of the few artists doing this. I have been predicting that he'll be raising prices as he could well do. You get a custom world class piece for very little money (remind you of an old Morgan?). I have a 105 medium rollover and a 115. Ron does elite work. Get one.

I'm sold on them also...I have my 4th one. They have become primary pieces on my alto, tenor and bari.

I had a 115B and a JodyJazz HR 7*. The RPC wasn't for me but it was better than the JodyJazz. I play an RPC 90R on alto that I absolutely love and would like to play a 105R to see if that suits me better than the 115B did.

As a point of interest, which mouthpiece do you find preferable to the RPC 115B please? Presumably on tenor.

Does the 115B really have the power of something like a Guardala Super King?
I'd like to try one, but I fear I'm pretty much stuck on these high-baffle metal pea-shooters...

Definitely going to get a RPC alto piece (So if anyone has an extra...)
