Heard today that Paul Motian passed away. Beautiful musician, such a tasteful player.
Enjoyed his recordings with Frissell and Lovano, like that Bill Evans record w Marc Johnson on bass. Show Type Tune, 34 Skidoo, Turn Out the Stars. Great stuff. And of course, Waltz for Debby/Village Vanguard, and Trio 64.
I know he recorded a lot of eclectic stuff later on too, seems like I remember one with both Lovano and Bill Drewes on it. Don't know his music as well as I should, he really pushed some boundries while keeping the tradition alive at the same time.
