Yeah, I know this isn't a person, but those of us in L.A. it's just as tragic:

AUGUST 31, 2011

TO ALL OUR LOYAL FANS
DUE TO THE STATE OF THE ECONOMY,
AFTER 11 YEARS OF AMAZING JAZZ
AT CHARLIE O'S,
TONIGHT WILL BE OUR LAST PRESENTATION AND
THE LIGHTS WILL DIM FOREVER
AFTER THE LAST SET.

JO-ANN & MIKE

Bari Sax Diva...Sad news...very sad. I played there with Jennifer Hall years ago, and loved the room, it was a jazz room. Another gone...and really not to return either.:(

Along with Cape May Jazz Festival...which has also bit the dust.

BUMMER AND NOT COOL.

The sunset zone for any great jazz venue is 10-20 years. There is just something about great music that assures it will not, cannot, perpetuate itself past one generation.

The marketplace always has the last word, whether you defy it or cave in to it. So why not go out swinging?

Always sad to hear. The announcement is a bit confusing: is the club closing or are they just discontinuing the live music?
