Jazz bassist Gary Peacock has passed away at the age of 85,probably best known for his work with Keith Jarrett he also performed and recorded with Albert Ayler ,Paul Motian,Paul Bley and many others.

Oh, no! I had no idea he was that old. I'm a big fan, and probably one of the few who laughed when he refused to be awed by Elvis Costello.

It appears that one of Mr Peacock's cohorts was duped into believing he had passed. He then tweeted this info out giving it an air of legitimacy. He has since deleted that post and Annette Peacock has said "Now it appears the reports on Gary's death are a hoax, which indeed would be good news!". I hope he is healthy and that all is well.

It has been a strange circumstance with all these conflicting internet stories.
But, the sad fact is that Gary has departed. Confirmed by a few close sources.
He'd been seriously ill for a while now.
The breadth of his career is startling. Who else has had one like it?
