Curious if anyone finds the Select Jazz reeds (tenor) to be a little softer than what the official strength chart comparison says. 2M in Select Jazz should be equivalent to 2.5 of the Orange Box but I find the 2M Select Jazz to be more like a 2.25 in comparison. Unless it's a matter of the cut making the Select Jazz more responsive or something. 2.5 is about what strength my embouchure can handle right now but the Select Jazz 2M play quite easily, effortlessly.

The values in the chart are measured for dry reeds as a function of force required for an amount of tip deflection. Playing response is not a direct correlation. Those charts are just a ball park estimation (and another good reason to stick with a good reed model/strength if you ever find one).

I'm a 2.5 player on tenor and I used to use RSJ 3 Soft, filed or un-filed (mainly un-filed).

Thanks. I think 3S or 2H is probably what I am looking for. 2M is a little too soft.

I found this on tenor, but on alto the 2M feel stiffer to me. Go figure.
