I just would like to know that the difference between the Unfiled and Filed Reeds for Alto Saxophone?

Alot of the people notice no difference. Myself included.

Filed possibly gets a livilier free blowing sound ???

I agree with Mike. No difference to me. I think there is more variation in the reeds themself than in the difference between unfiled & filed. I take what the store has in stock.

I'm with Mike C and Dr. Sax. I can't tell the difference between filed and unfiled RJS. But my favorite reeds are LaVoz and Gonzalez. Both are unfiled.

La Voz reeds are my favorite as well -- not because they are better than anything else, but because they are about the cheapest!

I have to agree with Mike, there is no real difference in the SOUND, but filed reeds for me get a little bit better response and resonance. I don't know how much of a difference that makes for the audience.
