someone on e-bay was selling these older large metalites and: What The Hell; this is a monster! and I havent even dared to go fullout yet and I am allready in need of a repaint for my house and the neighbours on my left and right!

This is perfect, I have to play with (among other) 7 trumpets and 3 trombones so this will really give them some bite back .

I used in combination with a legere 2¾, and it didnt play with much more effort than my M9. And when played at "normal" volume you get lush lows with real centered highs.

So if you want some paint removed, or occasionally want to give your fellow trumpeteer a bit of a challenge to keep up with you. there are still a few left on ebay.

Just sharing my positive experiences, this is my first really large alto tip opening mpc. I`m used to a lebayle metal jazz 8 (.95) for the setting I'll use the metalite in (occasionally).

Regards,

Koen

Welcome to the Metalite fan club. See the fan thread here. I was about to say which horn is it for - alto, tenor, bari? I have Metalite M11's for alto and bari, I only have up to M9 for tenor. I recently got a Martin alto and got M7, M9, and M11 pieces for it. The M11 is a little hard to blow, I'm going back and forth between the M7 and M9. Or rather I was until I got a modified M7 from Jorns Bergenson who's a member here on SOTW. He opened up the chamber and raised the baffle. It's a total screamer and very easy-blowing. But I'm still experimenting with different pieces on the alto. Based on your comment, I'll spend some more time with the M11 and see if it starts to become my preferred piece.

yeah I have to get one for tenor after the holidays..
I have a friend who could use a metalite for bari, do you have any recommendations regarding top opening, he plays a selmer C* I believe.

what did you acheive by altering it? mine`s are allready screamers and free blowing..

you'll have to see what works for you, you could try the m11 with a little bit of a softer reed as the M9 and see what works/sounds best..
