Are there any techs or shops on the forum that will tackle the repair of a Ebay Chinese alto? It is a Golden Cup and wasn`t a bad horn at all. It was dropped bending the middle palm key. I straightned that out but I guess that threw every thing else out too as its much harder to play now. The problem seems to be in the lower stack.

I think the people who refuse to repair them are the minority- but be prepared for price shock. Sometimes the problems that these horns have are due to bad manufacture, and can be very time consuming to correct.

My GUESS is that the whole horn is bent.

Where are you located? Maybe we here can recommend a particular place to go.

As a very simple example, I present the attached photo of a pivot rod, one of six similar ones I found in a BRAND NEW Chinese sax. Slight turns, to tighten such rods, and the keys wobbled around to new positions over the tone holes, making the pads leak.

The sax initially played quite well, but the first time some work was actually needed on it, this was the sort of thing I encountered, all over the instrument.

I think the thread had to be beaten to make it grip in the post.

I think the rest was beaten to bring it up to an approximation of the ID of the pivot tube.

That was on an Alto. The tenor that came beside it did not have this problem but no doubt had others, which will sock somebody - very likely a technician - in the wallet some day.
