Any suggestions on removing some rust on my YAS =62II?

I attached a pic. Or perhaps it's nothing I should be concerned about?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Have you tried WD-40 on a Q-Tip?
I can't tell from the picture if that discoloration is under the lacquer or on top of it. If it is on top of it, it should rub off with some naptha or wd-40 on a q-tip. (Naptha is zippo lighter fluid).

If it is under the lacquer, you should probably leave it alone unless you want to take it to a repairperson and get the horn disassembled, the lacquer stripped off that spot, the "rust" buffed off, and then the area spot lacquered- which is going to be a bit expensive!

In any case, it isn't going to be affecting the sound of your horn in any measureable way. If it were me, I wouldn't worry about it.
I got some rest inside the bell of my alto. Is it worth the trouble to clean it up?
Wouldn't hurt. Rust holds moisture. Moisture causes corosion. Corosion=RED ROT. If you like your sax, take good care of it.

If it is on any metal other than iron or steel, it is called corrosion, not rust.

From the photo it looks like "acid bleed" corrosion. The corrosive flux used for soldering was not properly cleaned off and/or neutralised before the sax was lacquered. It is under the lacquer and likely to continue spreading. To stop this, treatment as per what abadcliche wrote, unfortunately.

It is quite common on relatively new instruments, more so with some brands than others, I guess as a result of skimping to cut production costs. I have not found it common in Yamahas from Japan.
Gordon is right on, its under the laq, its really hard to fix without making a mess of it.My MKVI suffers from it, an ultrasonic clean before the new laquer is applied will take care of it.
lol you should see my old 62. The lacquer is worn and it's tarnished, scratched and generally dirty. Who cares it sounds good.
This is normal and only a cosmetic issue. My 62 soprano, both my previous 62 altos and previous 62 tenor have this flux bleeding under the lacquer at a soft soldered joint, and it's not only Yamahas that have this - look at a Buffet S1, S2 or S3 and they'll probably have it much more widespread.

Thanks for everybody for your input - it's very helpful!
