I'm thinking about buying this Martin alto and I'm not 100% sure it's the original finish. The seller claims that it's original and I have no reason not to trust him, it's just that the lacquer doesn't seem as dark as some of the other Martins I've seen of similar vintages. Thoughts? Thanks!

Bill,
Thanks for the reply. The short answer is: I don't know how it plays because it's in LA.

The pads are fresh and the price is pretty good. I just wanted a few more opinions on the lacquer. Thanks for jumping right in!

As the previous person said -- don't worry if it is " original " and worry about how it plays -- see if you can get it on a trial and dont judge the horn on the lacquer --- i have had many non original horns and they were all great !

By The way -- it looks original to me

It's hard to say . The pitting and laquer wear on the thumb rest
tends to say original, but it could be an old relaquer. Engraving
seems sharp enough, but the photos just don't show enough detail.

If I had to say, probably original. But it's a tough call. I see your dilemma.

Good luck !
