I play V16 3's on a V16 A5 and find the reeds to be a bit too edgy for me. I'm looking for a reed with a more mellow tone that I can use for jazz. Any suggestions/experiences?

La Voz are supposedly warmer sounding reeds..also the Rico Jazz Selects unfiled tend to be pretty warm...you might want to try a little thicker reed overall to round out the sound...

Vandoren specifically developed the ZZ for that purpose: less edge than the V16, less buzz than the Java. Give them I try. You might need half a step stronger than the V16 (-> 3.5).

If you want to stay in the Vandoren camp try the ZZs too. In my experience they are a little brighter than the Java. Both ZZs and Javas are less harsh than the V16. Personally Ive no love for the 16s at all...but to each his own.
