I had my first rehearsal with my school's wind ensemble tonight, and I was playing my newly aquired C*. I know a classical piece takes getting used to, but I felt like my upper octave was stuffy and the response just wasnt all there. So basically, what's a ballpark reed strength to use on a C*? (Vandoren Blue Box probably)

There's no way anyone here can answer that question unless they know you personally. The answer could be anything from a 1 to a 5. Try different strengths and see what works for you.

Get some Hemke 3s and work your way up. Most people play 3 1/2s or so on C*s, but the real problem is that the C* facing is too small for tenor. (There have been lots of topics on this.)
