My nephew who wanted to play drums in his 4th grade band class has been assigned his second instrument choice of (alto) sax. The bad news is that he didn't get his first choice of drums, but the good news is that he is enjoying playing sax and has been sending me videos during his first few weeks of learning. (He likes to practice.... just like me!)

For example, he sent me recordings of him playing "Hot Cross Buns," "Three Blind Mice," and an original composition that sounds suspiciously similar to "Hot Cross Buns". :D

I think it would be a fun bonding experience to play some very simple duets with him.

Do you have any recommendations for some simple duet books that I could buy for myself and my nephew?

Can you just harmonize those simple melodies without music? Seems early for duets.

Sure, that's easy enough... while he's playing 3,2,1 I can play 5,4,3. However, I was never a child student of Sax. I started playing sax in my 20's, so I was just wondering if there were some popular method books for child musicians that could fit the bill. That's all. ;)

Many music shops carry books with easy duets. Granted they are more classically geared, but they serve the purpose. Tone building, counting, dynamics... Boring for some but educational.
