I just found this interesting article on the death and recent resurgence of saxophone in rock music in Treble ezine. The current issue also includes a list of 25 "great" rock songs from the past decade that feature saxophone. I was unaware of most of these, so I think it's worth checking out.

Well, it's certainly not "Rock and Roll", but these are tracks from the last decade, so it will be modern music. It includes quite of a variety of Rock genres, from Pop Rock (e.g., St. Vincent), to Metal/Noise Rock (Couch Slut), to Industrial Rock (Nine Inch Nails), to Punk (Downtown Boys).

It may not be your cup of tea, but I've never met a high schooler who sounds like Donny McCaslin, for example.

I'm a Jazz guy myself, but I nonetheless think it's interesting to hear saxophone in these different contexts.

Well put! May not be rocking oldies like a lot here will favor, but I am happy to hear it more in Alternative rock (didn't see much mentioned), as that's the modern genre I listen to most.

Glad to see Donny McCaslin and Colin Stetson mentioned, even if the writer is not so.. never mind. I did learn that saxophone is ridiculed by the current pop music audience. It is? Most of what I hear is so lame I’m glad for the instrument to not be associated with it.
