For me personally, this is an incredible find. Like some others out here, the "Live at the Lighthouse" album was my holy grail for at least a couple of years and now being able to see these guys playing some of the music from that album(s) is very cool indeed. Thanks for posting the vid!

Elvin is IN THE ZONE in this clip... yeah man!!! Thank God for Elvin Jones. This is a real holiday treat!

Of course, killer sax soling by Lieb and Grossman. (would you expect any less?) I don't know if it's collarboration, competition, or what, but man those guys just could really play off of one another...

Lovely take on Yesterdays with Lieb on flute. Man, I love to hear Lieb on flute!!! And, he was really bringin' it towards the end of the clip on soprano. wow.

Just watching Ken Burns jazz the last couple nights, while Elvin gets his due as part of the great Coltrane quartet no real mention of his many accomplishments afterwords...

... oh and you can hear "the lick" at 5:58...

38 years ago... wow. Liebman's sound on soprano has certainly grown: in depth and color. I, too, would love to hear him more on flute.

Elvin:what's there to say? A real volcano.

Question for you astute listeners ?? When grossman starts soloing at 5:15 with Elvin the bass drops. Does this soloing follow a form for a set # of bars ?? or is this free blowing improv. I was wondering how something like this goes down.

BTW Liebmans solo on this tune was killer and I thought a little short, Grossman joins and they scream together for a bit and then Grossman takes quite a stretch out . I wonder if that was where Grossman was supposed to enter or how these varied night to night?

The bass dropped so grossman & elvin can do a duo...kind of ups the excitement & makes a contrast from liebs solo...its a loose way of creating a small group "arrangement". Could be something they worked out on the fly or after playing many gigs together.
As far as time length, keep in mind that it was a tv show, so they had time retrictions
