Had the pleasure of seeing him at the original Yoshi's in Oakland back in early 90's....supposedly a very nice guy, as well.

I can think of no better recognition of the man than my walking into a cellar record store in Germany with a CD playing and I immediately knew that it was Randy Weston (and Billy Harper). A distinctive and important voice. He will definitely be missed.

He played a late night solo set at the Hyde Park Jazz Festival in Chicago in September 2016 at the young age of 90. I'm so glad I stayed to hear it. He was like 6'7" and made the piano look like a toy when he sat down at it. I love his African-inspired work but even his early recordings from the '50s are distinctive treasures. Another giant gone.
