I've downloaded a few midi files for practice, and realized that I don't have a stock, built-in midi player on my Mac (why not?!). Any suggestions for something very easy and fast. I've a recent Mac. The midi file plays on the quicktime player, but of course, I'd like to remove the lead track for practice.

What version of Mac OS are you running?

The OS X versions include garage band which is WAY more than just a MIDI player but can certainly do that.

Some macs don't include iLife, which includes garageband. If you have a mac and don't have iLife--GET IT. It's $79.00 and includes garageband, iPhoto, iWeb, iDVD, and iMovie.

In Garageband midi files are drag-n-drop. It doesn't get much easier.:)

This is what I was alluding to. Drag your midi file on the Garage Band icon. It will open the app and automatically separate all the tracks.

Check out the Garage Band forum;

Oh, and it looks like I can record directly into garage band? Cool! Then add reverb? Oh. And it's free. Gimme my Mac!

Actually, my father-in-law has the Mac.

He checked one out a few years ago when I told him I would get one if they weren't so expensive.

After the salesman demonstrated it, he was hooked.

I actually run Linux on PC hardware and use Rosegarden for all my MIDI needs.
