I've been playing a Marmaduke large chamber mouthpiece I just love, but it is very reed finicky. I'm wondering if anyone here has experience with these pieces, and what their experience with reeds has been.

There was a thread a few months ago about reed finicky mouthpieces: https://forum.saxontheweb.net/showt...a-mpc-reed-friendly-versus-finicky-with-reeds

See comments about table flatness, length of lay and rail profile.
And sometimes I think makers are designing mouthpieces with certain reeds in mind. It makes it difficult to try and use something different because the shape of the tip is off or they might have designed the mouthpiece to be used with a softer or harder reed compared to what the person might have been playing previously.

This wouldn't be a QC issue as much as an inherent design flaw/feature?

Usually its a technical issue. I dont know anyone who makes a mouthpiece that is reed picky on purpose. It would be like setting up a saxophone with several keys difficult to close unless you held it just right....
