Hi all,

I play first tenor in an amateur Big Band in The Netherlands (Q Big Band Delft). We recently played a gig in Rotterdam for the North Sea Round Town festival, which is a kind of warming up for the big and world famous North Sea Jazz festival. We played at an outside stage at the Noordereiland, with a lot of wind (which you can hear clearly on the clips!).

I would like to share three clips with you. I play a short solo in each of them. Sound- and film quality could be better, but's is just as it is! Here are the clips:

1. "I've Got The World On A String" (my solo starts around 2:05):
-
or

3. "You Go To My Head" in a tricky arrangement of Bill Holman (my solo starts around 4:00):
-
or

I think I know most of our (and my) weak and 'less weak' spots, but ofcourse any remarks are welcome!

Nice job, Peter. Man I would love to have an opportunity to participate in something like this not too far from home! You really nailed the altissimo on He's My Guy. Very nice!

Regards,
George
Thanks for your nice comments George :). Indeed it's great to have such oppurtunities.

+1 I wanna sit in :)
You would be more then welcome TJ. When you visit Holland I will arrange the 'second baritone' chair for you :bluewink:!
Nice playing Peter......if I ever get back over there, I'll bring a horn or at least a mouthpiece and maybe you can let me sit in with you. Great fun.
Thanks Bill :D. I have a spare tenor (Selmer SA 80 II) here at home, so you only have to bring your MPC. That would be great fun: TJ on second bari and you and third tenor.

Any more volunteers? We do need a new piano player and a bass trombonist (and maybe a second alto)!
I posted three more clips of the Q Big Band Delft (with more 'wind' issues in the sound then the earlier ones):

4. "Look For The Silver Lining":

6. "Sing, Sing, Sing" (my solo starts around 0:35, after a big fight with my neck strap!):

cool Peter, enjoyed your playing and the band, it reminded me of some gigs I used to do outside in not so sunny Belfast!
Thanks Richard :). Here in Holland also lots of rain lately. With the wind coming from the west we get most of our weather from the UK overhere !
Peter, finally got around to checking these out. Nice soloing and enjoyed the band as a whole. Been a long time since I played or sat-in with a big band, agree with everyone else - those situations are a blast!
Thanks for listening and the comments Shawn :). I really like this Big Band because it's a nice group of people to be with and we got frequent oppertunities to play in very nice settings (f.i. festivals in beautiful old 17th century Dutch town centres). For me it's often too much reading (I'm not very good at that), but I'm lucky to get quit a lot of soloing space. Have been asked recently to play (again) in a jazz combo, wich is also fun, but time is an issue in my life (as for you and most of us!) with a demanding job and other time consuming obligations [rolleyes].
I just posted two new clips of the Q Big Band Delft from a concert recorded in Rotterdam at April 1st, 2011. The (female) camera operator didn't always found her way in the band and stood often in front of the speakers, which made the sound a bit cracky at places. Anyhow, here are:

7. "Do Nothing Till You Here From Me" (my tenor solo starts around 1:27)
