Has anybody tried the Protec XL case for vintage tenors? I'm looking for a case for a Keilwerth Bundy Special tenor. The protec case I had for my alto was a great piece of equipment and I'm wondering if this would be my best bet.

Hmmm...I'm not seeing the rectangular wood case on their site anymore, but that's what I got for my The Martin Tenor. It's the bell keys and guard on the left side that does you in with some of them. I'm not familiar with the horn you mentioned, but if it has Selmer-style RH bell keys it'll work in the XL. Guys were saying in the past that they got Martins and such into the regular contoured case, but mine was not a good fit. I use the regular contoured case for a Selmer USA or MK VI, and I also have one of those contoured SKB hardside cases with dark red interior that fits the MK VI like it was made for it. It's a nice gig or travel case, but so's the Pro Tec.

Hey Big Hunk,

I looked a your website. It looks like you are having a blast over there. I want to hang out with some of those Shima Girls! Are you really 8'2"? You're huge but you can't be that tall!

Thanks guys,

The problem with the Keilwerth is not the bell keys but rather the enormous bell flange--it's outrageous! I have a Protec Max case I was going to use with it, but I can't get the lid shut.

Finn,,

8'2" might be a strech but its not hard to feel like a giant here in asia.We are definatly having a great time here,Island life has a way of keeping people mellow and out of the fast lane.

Let us know if your ever headed this way and we can set you up with your own Shima-Girl......

Rory, if your question is specific to JK's and not LH bell keys, I've got a JK and what has worked for me are Gator (the generic formed case), Berkeley-for Keilwerth, Johnson-for Keilwerth, and presently a VGV (formerly in the US "Barone"). A few folks have reportedly found Hiscox that will fit but that seems to be an anomaly.
